RockNLock Slot Review, Demo Play, Payout, Free Spins & Bonuses

Rock’N’Lock is a medium volatile 50s retro slot from Red Tiger, and it plays out on 5x4 reels with 25 paylines. All wild wins are boosted by x3, and scatters can linger for up to 5 spins to help trigger the Lock the Records bonus round. It’s a streak respins style bonus with cash scatters that reset the respin tally, and filling the grid doubles your total win. The max win is 2,340x your stake, and you can check our full review below the free demo game.

Rock’N’Lock Review

The main character in Red Tiger’s Rock’N’Lock looks like a mix between James Dean in Rebel Without A Cause and John Travolta in Grease. It’s not a bad look at all actually, and it would’ve been an interesting movie. The 5x4 grid is set outside a record shop in what looks like LA in the 1950s, and the reels are filled with guitars, headphones/mics, stereos and a pink cabriolet as the top-tier symbol.

‘Rockabilly’ himself serves as the wild, and the base game is fairly straightforward stuff. You get wilds that boost wins by x3, as well as semi-sticky scatter symbols that can linger for up to 5 spins to help trigger the bonus round. The Lock the Records feature is a typical hold & win round, but it comes with a unique twist we’ll reveal in the feature section below. Overall, a decent nostalgia trip to a simpler time, but this is also a fairly simple game.

Rock’N’Lock Slot Features

The premium symbols pay between 5 and 12 x your stake for 5 of a kind wins, and the Wild symbols step in for pay symbols to help complete wins. When at least one wild is part of a line win, the payout is boosted by an x3 multiplier.

In addition to the above, you can land gold and platinum record scatters on any reel.

The scatters come with cash prizes of 1 to 5 x your stake for the gold record, while the platinum scatter comes with cash prizes of 7x, 10x, 12x, 15x, 20x or 25x your stake. The scatters can also land with a number of 1 to 5 up in the corner, and this represents how many spins they will lock in place for before being removed.

The scatter cash prizes can only be won in the Lock the Records feature, and you need 3, 4 or 5 in view to trigger the streak respins style bonus. This awards 3, 4 or 5 starting respins, respectively, and the triggering scatters become sticky on an otherwise cleared grid. All new scatters that land become sticky as well, and the respins tally is reset each time.

What’s more, each new scatter symbol that lands adds their cash value to the already existing scatters. If you land more than one new cash scatter they do not add their values to each other, but only to the already existing sticky scatters.

The total cash value is summed up and paid when you run out of respins, and the sum is boosted by an x2 multiplier if you fill the grid.

Review Summary

You either dig the 50s Grease vibe or you don’t, and if you don’t there is hardly any point in playing a game like Rock ’N’ Lock. The James Dean lookalike main character adds a bit of mystique to the action, but this is hardly a rebellious game that challenges too many conventions. The x3 multiplier that boosts all wild wins can be helpful in the base game, but expect top-up wins most of the time.

The hold & win style bonus round would’ve been completely run of the mill, if it wasn’t for the innovative touch Red Tiger has included. Having new cash symbols add their values to all symbols is a pretty neat idea actually, and it lifts the experience at least above average. The 2,340x potential is mediocre and unexciting however, and overall many players will probably say the same about the whole game.

Pros

  • Wild wins are boosted by x3
  • Semi-sticky scatters linger for up to 5 spins
  • Lock the Records streak respins w/ x2 full-grid multiplier
  • Win up to 2,340x your stake

Cons

  • Beware of customizable RTP ranges

Grease - is a branded Playtech release based on the world famous musical movie starring John Travolta in his prime. You get a casual medium volatility also here, and you can look forward to features such as sticky wilds, jackpots, respins, a pick ‘em bonus game and a bonus round.

Full Moon Romance - is a romantic 1950s drive-in cinema slot on the surface, but this Thunderkick release contains a horrible secret. The full moon turns the sweethearts into werewolves in the bonus round, and the base game comes with a clone feature.
