Rambo (StakeLogic) Review

Hollywood legend, Sylvester Stallone, is pushing 75, but he’s still soldiering on with hardcore action movies to this day. Born in Hell’s Kitchen New York (where else, right), this puppy-eyed muscle man has killed more bad guys than most other action heroes combined. StakeLogic, known for their branded The Expendables series (where Sly is also the main man), has now taken their stab at the Rambo franchise with a brande effort simply called Rambo.

Not the most imaginative title perhaps, not least since there are a few notable games by that very title from before. We’ll get to those further down in the review, but let’s cover some basics first. StakeLogic has decided to go for cartoonish visuals instead of using real imagery from the movies. It might sound a bit harsh, but if we did not inform you that this was a branded effort involving Skyrocket Entertainment, you could easily mistake it for a somewhat generic action/war game abusing the trademarked title.

The game is set deep in the jungle, and it all plays out on 5 reels, 3 rows and 20 ways to win. Explosive wilds can land in the active area (reels 2 to 4), and create some mayhem in the base game. They become stacked wild reels, and nudge down per free respin until they fall off the grid. The Super Stake feature gives you plenty of benefits here, and the main attraction is the free spins round with exploding multiplier wilds that can lead to wins up to 7,125.76 times your stake. It might not be the ultimate Rambo slot we hoped for, but it’s still a decent enough game that certainly has its moments.

What Symbols are There?

It’s hard to believe that StakeLogic has bought the licence to produce the official Rambo™ slot, and then they somehow manage to butcher the main character’s very characteristic appearance. We’re sorry, but we expect a lot better from a branded slot than this generic looking “Rambo”, and at least give the poor guy a red bandana for god’s sake. Anyway, Rambo is worth a lot more than the other medium value weaponry symbols at least, and you need between 3 and 5 matching symbols to win.

Here is what the paytable looks like:

  • John Rambo - Pays 100x for 5 on a payline
  • Ammo box - Pays 40x for 5 on a payline
  • Grenade - Pays 25x for 5 on a payline
  • Arrows - Pays 17.5x for 5 on a payline
  • Machete - Pays 12.5x for 5 on a payline
  • Royal symbols - Pay between 5x and 2.5x for 5 on a payline

What are the Bonus Features?

StakeLogic likes to include their trademarked and innovative Super Stake feature in most of their games, and Rambo is no exception. Per usual, you will double your stake if you switch this thing on, but this will also give you some nice benefits. First of all, an explosive wilds feature includes a larger number of wilds and explosive wilds added to reels 2 to 4, and it will trigger relatively often with the Super Stake active.

It will also allow you to trigger the Super Stake Respins feature. You will first land 2 scatters on reels 1 and 2, and this gives you a respin where the existing scatter reels are sticky. You keep getting new respins as long as you keep landing new scatters, and this goes on until you have 5 scatters (1 on each reel), or don’t land anymore scatters. This can really help you trigger the free spins bonus round, so Super Stake is well worth considering in this game.

There are 2 kinds of wild symbols in Rambo slot, namely the explosive wilds and the multiplier wilds. The multiplier wilds are self-explanatory, but the explosive wilds are a bit more complex. When you land a TNT detonator on the reels, it will explode and make the reel into a wild reel.

You will also be granted 3 respins, one for each nudge as the wild reel moves down and off the screen.

There is also a gamble feature in this game, as it usually is with this developer. It’s the standard double or nothing feature, where you guess the card color or suit, and you can double or quadruple your winnings, or lose it all. Not really something we recommend, but it’s up to you.

Free spins in Rambo

The hissing cobra is the scatter symbol in this game, and you need to land at least 3 scatters anywhere on the same spin to trigger the free spins bonus round. More precisely, you will get 10, 20 or 50 spins when you land 3, 4 or 5 scatters respectively, and for some strange reason this bonus round does not really come with all the bells and whistles you might expect from a game based on a legendary action hero.

It does come with one important modification from the base game however, and that’s the ability of the explosive wilds to produce multiplier wilds. These wilds will step in for regular symbols as usual, but they also come with multiplier values of either 2x, 3x or 4x. You can also retrigger the free spins feature by landing 3 to 5 scatters on the same spin.

How to play

As is so often the case with StakeLogic, the first thing you need to decide upon is whether or not you want to play with the Super Stake feature active.

Rambo StakeLogic Slot Screenshot 6

Rambo StakeLogic Slot Screenshot 7

This will double the standard bet range from 20p to £100 per spin to 40p to £200 per spin. It might seem like a somewhat steep price to pay, but in this game you get so many benefits from the Super Stake feature that it’s probably worth it.

The hit frequency for some of the aforementioned features to trigger with the Super Stake active is once every 32nd spin. This will give you more action for sure, just as long as your bankroll can afford the higher price per spin. Before you get started for real, it’s always a good idea to check out the options menu. Here you can toggle on/off the sound and set the spacebar as a spin button.

You can then check out the hamburger menu in the top left corner, as this is where you’ll find the paytable, the game rules and other relevant info about the game. You can read all about the different bonus features here, and also get an overview of how much each symbol is worth. The game rules contain all relevant stats about Rambo slot, at least what the developer is willing to disclose.

As last, you can check out the autoplay feature via the circular arrow icon on the left-hand side.

Here you can choose how many autospins you want to go with, and also decide when the autoplay feature shall stop. You can choose to stop after a certain amount has been won or lost, or if you trigger the bonus round. With that, we wish you the best of luck playing Rambo, and we’ll give you some options about that below.

The 200 Spins Rambo Experience

As we usually do with StakeLogic games, we decided to split our 200 spins into 2 gaming sessions. The first 100 spins we did without the Super Stake turned on, while we switched it on for the last 100 spins. We set our total stake to £1 per spin, and then we turned on the turbo spins and set the autospins to 100. We then leaned back to see what kind of wins could be squeezed out of this game, and who would draw first blood.

It took awhile for the game to “come out of its shell” so to speak, and we did not really win that much during our first 100 spins. This was expected, as we felt that the Super Stake option was needed to really bring out the best from this game. Our bankroll took a beating, but nothing worse than the main character has to handle in every movie, and we felt confident that the world would be set right again in our final 100 spins.

It was with great anticipation that we finally switched on the Super Stake feature, and it did not disappoint. After just a few spins, we managed to trigger the bonus round with 20 free spins to go. A wild multiplier landed us a solid 346x win, and in total we won 456x our stake in this bonus round. The game then handed out a longer losing streak, but we won back those losses when the screen exploded with wilds towards the end of our session.

Game

Please realize that this was our very subjective beginner’s luck experience with Rambo slot, and things might turn out differently for you. Based on our experience, we do recommend the Super Stake feature for this game, as it made a big difference for us. Ultimately, a lot more spins are needed to get statistical significant results, and you will just have to decide for yourself what you prefer.

Review Summary

Few action heroes are as iconic as Stallone’s John Rambo, with his puppy-dog sanpaku eyes, his pouty lip and classic, un-ironic one-liners like: “to survive a war, you gotta become war”. It’s therefore a bit sad to see a branded game that does not really do justice to the legend. For starters, the Rambo symbol looks generic, and the game simply needs more explosive over-the-top-ness to match the movies. It’s a decent slot overall, and the potential is solid enough, but it’s not the “definite” Rambo slot in any way, shape or form.

Pros

  • Optional Super Stake feature
  • Expanding TNT wilds with respin nudges
  • Free spins with multiplier wilds
  • Medium to high volatility
  • 7,125.76x max win potential

Cons

  • Generic looking “rambo” for a branded slot
  • Not the “definite” Rambo game we hoped for

If you enjoy Rambo you should also try:

There are plenty of games based on action movies on the market, and this is not the only game that’s based on the Rambo franchise either. Here we will take a look a few games you should check out if hardcore action is your thing, including two other Rambo slots that are well worth a closer look.

Rambo - from Skywind Group is a lot braver effort than the game at hand. Released in late 2018, this game comes with real first-person shooter action in the jungle, where you get to become Rambo as he takes out military equipment and helicopters with his bazooka. Any fan of the legendary vietnam veteran will love this engaging game, and it’s a must try for any fan of 1st person action.

Rambo - is iSoftBet’s “oldie but goodie” take on our muscular friend’s action adventures. The reels have a diamond setup, and you’ll play with 720 ways to win here. The bonus round comes with an expanding chosen symbol, and there are also 4 “explosive” jackpots up for grabs here. This is a game that’s aged surprisingly well, and we’ll leave it up to you to decide which version of Rambo you like the best.

The Expendables New Mission Megaways - is the second and latest game in StakeLogic’s branded The Expandables series, and it comes jam packed with features and potential. You can win up to 20,000x your stake here, and you’ll benefit from golden skull mystery symbols, free spins with unlimited progressive multiplier and Stallone himself lobbing grenades onto the reels that explode into wilds and multiplier wilds.
